Workshop - Airborne Laser Technology and Data Processing |
| |
Objective: |
|
| |
Contents: |
|
The increasing availability of Airborne Laser Technology since the end of the 90s, the continuously improving performance of such systems and of the related data processing software, as well as their advantages regarding rapid collection and processing of data, tree canopy penetration, illumination and texture independence and automated processing, make laser data processing a very useful tool for mapping and extraction of geospatial information.
The workshop will cover the following topics: description of Airborne Laser Scanning (ALS) components, principles of laser ranging and laser scanning, reflection properties, ALS parameters, existing systems and software packages, flight planning and execution, calibration, point cloud generation, strip adjustment, generation of digital surface and terrain models, error characteristics and quality control, orthoimage generation, vegetation applications, building extraction, project examples and comparison with other technologies.
For better and easier understanding of the theory by the workshop participants, the lectures will be accompanied by demonstrations. |
| |
| Intended Audience: |
This workshop is intended for advanced students, young researchers and professionals in public or private organisations with an engineering or natural sciences background. It is assumed that participants have little knowledge on laser technology and data processing. |
| |
Material: |
The lecture material, some additional papers, useful links and possibly also test data will be distributed on CD. Language of the material: English. Lectures will be given in Spanish, if all participants understand Spanish. |
| |
Time: |
Saturday and Sunday, September 20-21, 2008, 8:30 AM to 17:30 PM (includes coffee breaks at 10.00-10.30 and 15.30-16.00, and lunch at 13.00-14.00). |
